NMT and State Final Attestation

To enter the bachelor's level (master's level for medicine) of higher education this year, applicants will need to take the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT). Last year, applicants were offered only the compulsory subjects. This year the assessment tool has been refined.

The NMT will contain three blocks of tasks, two of which are compulsory and the third is chosen by the applicant. The compulsory subjects are the Ukrainian language and mathematics, and the elective options are the History of Ukraine, one of the foreign languages (English, German, French or Spanish), biology, chemistry and physics. The applicant will indicate the elective subject they wish to take when registering for the NMT.

For security reasons, the following decision has been made: the NMT will take place on a single day. The test will last 180 minutes, so 60 minutes are allotted to each block. Note that participants will be able to manage their time themselves, so those who finish the Ukrainian language or mathematics tasks faster will be able to spend more time on the elective subject block.

After completing all the NMT tasks, each participant will receive information about the number of test points for each block. For the competitive selection, the results of each block converted to the 100–200 point scale will be used. The conversion tables will be approved by the Ministry of Education and Science in advance. As a result, immediately after the test a participant will know not only the number of test points they have earned but also how their results stand for admission. Coefficients will be set for the results of each NMT block for all specialities. Information on the values of these coefficients will be included in the Admission Rules for Higher Education in 2023. This document will be approved soon. To receive a result on the 100-200 point scale for each NMT block, a participant must earn at least 10% of the total number of test points.

Registration for the assessment will take place in April. The Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment will provide paperless registration. Applicants will be able to use a special service on the website of this institution. All registration stages will be described in detail on the Centre's website.

At present, two NMT sessions are planned: a main session and an additional session. The main session will take place in June, and the additional one in June – July. Applicants who could not take the test during the main session for valid reasons will be able to take part in the additional session.

As last year, the NMT will take place in specially equipped computer rooms of educational institutions – temporary examination centres (TECs) set up in towns and cities both in Ukraine and abroad. We will announce later in which countries the assessment will be held. The enemy continues to attack our cities, so, as last year, testing will be paused during air raid alerts and resumed only after the participants and TEC staff return from shelters.

Participants will be able to choose the third NMT subject themselves. It will be universal, meaning that an applicant will be able to enter any speciality with the subject they have chosen. However, different coefficients will be applied to the NMT results for admission to different specialities. If an applicant applies for a law programme, the result in the History of Ukraine will carry more weight than the result in biology, and for a medical programme it will be the other way round.

In the History of Ukraine test in 2023, participants will work with tasks related to events from the second half of the 16th century to the beginning of the 21st century.

The foreign language tests will contain no open-response tasks and no listening tasks. We would also like to note that the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment is developing the test platform, so such tasks will certainly become available on it in the future.

As last year, applicants will be able to use reference materials when working on the mathematics tests.

No later than May 2023, the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment will prepare demonstration versions of all NMT blocks, so participants will be able to become familiar with the test format and practise completing the tasks.

Instead of the 2023 NMT results, applicants will be able to use the 2022 NMT results or the 2021 or 2020 External Independent Evaluation (ZNO) results.

This year, students completing full general secondary education will not take the State Final Attestation.

All applicants to master's programmes on the basis of a bachelor's degree will take the Unified Entrance Exam (EVI), which has two blocks: the General Educational Competence Test (TZNK) and a foreign language test (English, German, French, Spanish). Also, for admission to the specialities 05 Social and Behavioural Sciences, 06 Journalism, 07 Management and Administration, 08 Law, 28 Public Management and Administration, and 29 International Relations, applicants will need to take the Unified Professional Entrance Exam (EFVV).
